My Poppies

I love dragons and this one started with
an image from a movie. I wanted the
sinuous movement of him winding his
way through the trees into the field of
poppies, (I already had a printed fabric
of poppies in two different colorways that
I wanted to use). The Dragon is cut from
one piece of batik shading from yellow
through red to lavendar. After some very
carefull cutting, I drew in the scales with
water-proof magic markers, adding
shadding at the same time. The sky is a
piece of ombre fabric. The challenge
was to make him look like he was
actually standing in amongst the poppies.
